Wrestling legend "Rowdy" Roddy Piper has died of cardiac arrest in his sleep at his home in Hollywood, CA on Thursday night July 31. He was 61.
"I am devastated at this news. Rod was a good friend as well as a client and one of the most generous, sincere and authentic people I have ever known,'' Roddy's rep told TMZ. ''This is a true loss to us all."
Piper was diagnosed with cancer in 2006. He was scheduled to wrestle at the Survivor Series that year, teaming with Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Sgt. Slaughter and Dusty Rhodes against the Spirit Squad, however he was replaced in the match by Ron Simmons. He stated in an interview with The Hillsboro Tribune last November that he was now cancer free.

"The cancer is gone as far as I know," Piper said. "I've passed the five-year mark. It's one of those things that haunts you a little bit, especially when you go as hard as I did. I'm doing OK, but about a year ago, I was driving home and I couldn't breathe and almost passed out. I was trying to ignore it, but I had a blood clot in my lung and spent some time in the hospital. I need to start being careful. I'm not sure we're invincible anymore."

We send our thoughts and condolences to Piper's loved ones during this difficult time!

Bakare: 'I am not expecting to be named a minister into Buhari's cabinet'

The General Overseer of Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare has said that he is not expecting President Muhammadu Buhari to appointment him into his cabinet.

Bakare was among other delegates who accompanied Buhari to the US on the president's 3-day official state visit (July 20 - July 23).

Here's what the 60-year-old Nigerian prophetic-apostolic pastor had to share with Sahara Reporters in an interview on Thursday July 30.

"As far as I am concerned, I am not expecting to be named a minister,'' Bakare told SR. ''If I am offered an appointment, when I get to that bridge I will cross it. I am already a minister of the gospel. Ministry is my calling and my life. The word minister means servant. When you expect nothing, you cannot be disappointed. I keep on doing what I am doing, to be a solid supporter of the Buhari movement and what he stands for in public life. I have no regret on what I did in 2011. If an opportunity presents itself, I will do it again. I am not seeking anything. Let’s not count chickens before they are hatched. The bible says the expectation of the righteous will not be cut off. That is when the expectation of the righteous is in tandem with God’s expectation. If you are expecting from God, the flesh can fail. Who knows tomorrow? In the next two months, when the ministers would be named, what if nobody is here or alive? ''

The 32-year-old embattled reality star was joined by his 5-year-old Mason as they headed to Topanga Mall for a spot of shopping, stopping in at Target and Nordstrom where they managed to find some things to buy.

Disick has largely been absent from the children's lives for the last month - even missing Penelope's birthday - after pictures first emerged of him partying with an old girlfriend.

Earlier in the week, Disick took Mason and daughter Penelope out for lunch making it the second time he's been seen spending quality time with his children. But their last child Reign was left at home no doubt with mom Kourtney Kardashian.

APC: DSS DG not our card-carrying member

Press Statement:

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied the allegation by the PDP that the Director-General of the DSS, Mr. Lawal Daura, is a card-carrying member of the party (APC), calling the accusation absurd and frivolous

In a statement issued in Lagos on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party challenged the PDP to publish any evidence it may have to confirm the allegation, adding: ”After all, it is trite that he who alleges must prove.”

”In the absence of that, the PDP must call another press conference to publicly apologize to all Nigerians for engaging in barefaced lies,” it said.

APC expressed shock that the PDP has started exhibiting all the symptoms of hallucination so soon after its gravy train derailed, saying it’s obvious that the party has now started hearing voices.

”We know that the psyche of the PDP has been badly affected by its loss of power at the centre. Even the party itself has admitted that much. That situation has now been compounded by the fact that the party is broke. It is therefore not a surprise that it is no longer able to think straight. The reality of its new situation is just beginning to dawn on it.

”But we warned the PDP early on that being in opposition is not a walk in the park. We warned that while the party was used to eating its bread with butter on both sides, it will now be lucky to even have bread to eat,” the party said.

It warned the PDP to spend more time in patching its tattered and battered umbrella than acting as a cog in the wheel of progress of the new Administration.

I headed a military that lacked the relevant equipment to terrorists - Alex Badeh

Immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, Alex Badeh says he lacked the relevant equipment to fight against the militant Islamist group, Boko Haram during his time in office as the CDS.

The 58-year-old retired Air Chief Marshal was sacked alongside other service chiefs by president Buhari on July 13, made the confession on Thursday July 30 while speaking at the handing over ceremony to the new chief of Defence staff, Major-General Abayomi Gabriel Olonishakin in Abuja on Thursday July 30.

"The task of coordinating the military and other security agencies in the fight against the insurgents is perhaps the most complex and challenging assignment I have had in my over 38 years in service;'' Badeh told the audience. ''For the first time, I was head of a military that lacked the relevant equipment and motivation to fight an enemy that was invisible and embedded with the local populace.

''Furthermore, the activities of fifth columnists in the military and other security agencies who leaked operational plans and other sensitive military information to the terrorist, combined to make the fight against the insurgents particularly difficult. The activities of these unpatriotic members of the military not only blunted the effectiveness of the fight, but also led to the needless deaths of numerous officers and men who unwittingly fell into ambushes prepared by terrorists who had advance warnings of the approach of such troops. The decision by certain countries to deny us weapons to prosecute the war also added to the challenges we faced. Despite these challenges, I am glad to note that a lot was achieved during our time in the fight against terror. The achievements recorded are largely due to the commitment, patriotism and fighting spirit of our men and women in uniform who saw the fight against terror as a task that must be accomplished no matter the odds and inspite of the campaign of calumny against the military by a section of the media with their foreign collaborators,'' he said.

Michel Platini confirms to stand for the FIFA presidency

The President of UEFA Michel Platini has confirmed his intention to stand as a candidate for the FIFA presidency on Wednesday July 28.

The 60-year-old former French football player, who has been President of UEFA since 2007 and a member of the FIFA Executive Committee since 2002,  pledged to work tirelessly for the unity and well-being of world football.

"This was a very personal, carefully considered decision, one in which I weighed up the future of football alongside my own future,'' he said on the UEFA website. ''I was also guided by the esteem, support and encouragement that many of you have shown me. I pledged to work tirelessly in the interests of football. There are times in life when you have to take your destiny into your own hands. I am at one of those decisive moments, at a juncture in my life and in events that are shaping the future of FIFA."

Sepp Blatter has held the FIFA presidency since 1998, but he announced in June that he was resigning just days after being re-elected amid the corruption scandal that has engulfed world football's governing body.

No country can succeed alone in the war against terror - Buhari

Press Statement:

President Buhari has said that Nigeria and neighboring countries must stand together to defeat and degrade Boko Haram terrorists in the sub-region. Speaking late Wednesday at a state dinner at the Unity Palace in Yaounde, during his two-day working visit to Cameroon, President Buhari said countries in the sub-region cannot afford to falter in their resolve to get rid of the evils of terrorists.

''We recognize that none of us can succeed alone. In order to win this war we need the collective efforts of each one of us, standing together as a formidable force for good, to defeat and end these acts of terror against our people,’’ he said. The President told guests at the dinner hosted by President Paul Biya that the security situation in the region presented an opportunity for Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Benin to work together for their common security, peace and socio-economic development.

''Let me assure all of my relentless pursuit of all possible means to safeguard Nigeria’s territorial integrity, protect the lives and property of our citizens as well as my commitment to continue to collaborate with Cameroon and our neighbors, within the framework of the Lake Chad Basin Commission. ``The Federal government of Nigeria is committed to respecting international norms to resolve this matter and to restore normalcy to all the affected areas as soon as possible,’’ he said.

''The Federal government of Nigeria is committed to respecting international norms to resolve this matter and to restore normalcy to all the affected areas as soon as possible,’’ he said.

The President, who had earlier on his arrival on Wednesday held a closed-door session with his host, thanked President Biya for providing refuge to Nigerians who had fled their homes because of the insurgents. He also commended Cameroon for its support to Nigerian military and security personnel in the fight against terrorism and offered his condolences to the families of the victims of terror in both countries.

President Buhari used the occasion of his speech to announce Nigeria's willingness to expand economic partnerships with Cameroon, through increased joint ventures in infrastructure development, transport and commerce, among others. He welcomed the achievements so far recorded by the Nigeria-Cameroon Joint Commission and all the landmark agreements signed between both countries.

The President, who described the relations between both countries as excellent, recognized the roles played by past and present leaders and Nigerian citizens in sustaining friendly relations with Cameroon. In his remarks, Biya while congratulating President Buhari for a successful inauguration into office said his electoral victory has provided an opportunity for him to preside over the ``destiny of Nigeria.''

''Mr President, a dark cloud is looming over our countries even as we welcome you; we are facing the same threat, which may rock the foundation of our two nations.

''This danger bears the name of Boko Haram, its atrocities and crimes are jeopardizing peace around Lake Chad and especially in our two countries. ``The number of dead and victims are rising, economic activities have been crippled in affected areas, the number of refugees and displaced persons are ever increasing. ''We cannot allow this cancer to spread, we must pool our resources and forces and share our experiences,'' he said.

President Biya, who reaffirmed Cameroon’s commitment in the fight against terror, welcomed the ''fresh push’’ on economic ties between both countries through easing of trade.

''I strongly believe in your readiness to work towards that goal and your visit to Cameroon as well as the discussions we have had have strengthened my conviction,’’ he said.

Dr Ngozi is a global star people should leave her alone - Peter Obi

The immediate past Governor of Anambra State Peter Obi says people will gain nothing trying to tarnish the reputation of the former Finance minister of Nigeria and coordinating minister for the economy Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala rather they should leave her alone.

The 54-year-old former governor who spoke with some journalists in the state recently, described Dr Ngozi as a global star one who came back to serve Nigeria with passion.

"It is rather unfortunate that we have this attitude of trying to pull down our best,'' Obi told journalists. ''Dr. Ngozi Okonjo- Iweala is a global star and only came back to serve her country and she did that with passion. We gain nothing trying to pull her down. We did it with Arunma Otteh, but we know what she is today. I have been in several meetings where this woman (Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala) was almost crying as she explained and pleaded with all and sundry on the need to save for the rainy day.

''She advised that proceeds from excess crude sales should be saved in the Sovereign National Wealth Fund for effective management. I have read newspaper reports that it is ironic that she spoke of a rainy day when it was already pouring. I personally remain indebted to her because it was from her persistent preaching on the need to save in the Sovereign National Wealth Fund that made me incorporate savings in foreign currency – that is why one third of the money we left on leaving office was in foreign currency, $156 million(N25 billion at that time) With interest now it would be about $170 million and with the current rate it is almost N40 billion.

My position in all this is that we must cultivate the attitude of saving as a country. Excess crude money should be saved in the Sovereign Wealth Fund. No country will survive without saving for the future. Even in animal kingdom, the ants save for the rainy day. We must save bearing in mind that natural resources that we enjoy today are depleting assets."

Dr Ngozi was the Managing Director of World Bank (October 2007 - July 2011)

Nigeria leads in corrupt practices in the world - Emir Sanusi

The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II is not happy that Nigeria is leading in corrupt practices in the world.

Governor Oshiomhole of Edo State had last week disclosed to newsmen immediately after their return from the United States with President Muhammadu Buhari that a former minister during the immediate past government stole $6 billion.

The 53-year-old Emir of Kano and a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria made the statement when the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti Corruption Commission, led by its Executive Chairman Muhuyi Magaji, paid him a courtesy call at his palace on Wednesday July 29.

''It is disheartening to see that Nigeria is one of the countries in the world that are leading in corrupt practices,'' Sanusi told the visitors. ''Any country with this kind of embezzlement ($6 billion) that could absolutely make such country to collapse. We should understand that fighting against corruption is not only for government, we all need to put our hands on deck. But with the high sense of responsibility and responsible doggedness of our dear Buhari I am keenly optimistic that things will change for better. I am very hopeful that Mr. President will do everything possible to fight against corruption to a standstill.''
