NCC suspends plan increase prices of DATA

The Nigerian Communications Commission on Wednesday announced the immediate suspension of the new minimum pricing template for data services by mobile operators.

The new rate, which would have led to price increase in data for some Nigerians, was scheduled to take effect from December 1.

The NCC said the decision is to allow for further consultation.

The NCC’s decision comes a few hours after the Senate ordered a stop to the planned increase.

BREAKING NEWS: Senate asks NCC to suspend hike in data price

The Nigerian Senate has asked the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) to immediately suspend any planned increase in data price.

The Senate also invited NCC and service providers to investigate unsolicited messages as well as increase in cost of data.

Vice chairman of Senate Committee on Communications Senator Solomon Adeola on behalf of the Committee promised to get back to Senate next Tuesday on their finding.

We Never Ordered Telecommunications Operators To Increase Prices Of Data - FG

Nigeria’s Minister of Communication, Mr Adebayo Shittu, has disclosed that the Federal Government never gave any directive to telecommunications operators in the country to increase prices of data from Thursday, December 1, 2016 as claimed.

Since the beginning of this week, Nigerians have continued to kick against messages sent to them via text messages by telecoms operators, informing them that from tomorrow, prices of data would go up and in some cases, by 100 percent

But speaking on Wednesday on RayPower FM’s Fact File programme, which was monitored in Lagos today, the Minister said he was never consulted before the announcement was made. He stressed that the government did not authorise the operators to raise the tariffs.

However, he assured Nigerians that the government would look into the matter and continue to protect their interests.

“I can tell you that I was never a party to it (data tariff hike). Government never gave any such instruction. This government believes in democratic process and we would continue to protect the interest of Nigerians. I can assure you we would do that (protect interest of Nigerians),” he said on the radio programme.

Also on the issue of subscribers still getting unsolicited messages from operators, Mr Shittu promised to take steps to stop the menace.

He lamented that he also gets such messages from his operator. “I am also a victim of unsolicited messages from operators, but I promise government will take pragmatic steps to stop this,” the Minister said

I was afraid of admitting I’m Christian for fear of being killed – Singer, Adewale Ayuba

Popular Fuji musician, Adewale Ayuba, has opened up on his initial fear after he got converted to Christianity.

Ayuba, now commonly known as Mr. Johnson, was born and bred in a Muslim family.

According to the ex-staunch Muslim, he had been a Christian since 2010, but hasn’t been practicing it for fear of being killed.

The ‘Ijo Fuji’ songster made this known in an open confession in the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, weekend.

While admitting that he is now proudly a full Christian, he said, “I have been a Christian for so long, even my family members especially my kids are all going to church but I make sure I go every December 31st. If I don’t, I will presume the New Year would be filled with dangers that will lead to my death.

“I was always scared of admitting to the world that I’m Christian, for fear of being killed, but now I have the courage to say it boldly, I’m a born-again Christian. I’m no more a Muslim,” Ayuba added.

Ben-Murray Bruce Weighs In On Increment Of Data Rates

Senator Ben Murray Bruce has reacted to the directive given by the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) to telecommunications companies within the country to increase data rates.

Bruce stated on his Facebook page on Wednesday morning, ''I will fight against this data increase in the Senate. The NCC, as a regulator, should be directing that GSM firms reduce and not increase tariffs!! In my opinion, rather than direct GSM firms to hike rates, NCC should invest in free public wifi for the advancement of knowledge in Nigeria. It is very unjust for people whose fuel, power and GSM plans are paid for by the people to increase fuel, power and GSM plans for the people without increasing the minimum wage! If the government is desperate for money then they should tax something that mainly the rich enjoy. The money they are looking for can be gotten if they tax all Business and First Class tickets.

''My name is Ben Murray-Bruce and I just want to make commonsense!''
