Delta issues DELBI cards to entrepreneurs

Delta State Government has commenced the issuance of the State Business Identification Cards, DELBI cards, to entrepreneurs who are registered with it for the conduct of businesses.

The state Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Dr Chris Ekiyor, who stated this during the flag-off ceremony on the Enlistment and Issuance of the Delta State Business Identification Card, DELBI card, noted that business transactions were becoming more complex globally.

Stressing the need for proper administration using innovative information and communication technologies, Ekiyor said operations relating to functions and services were carried out manually and could cause time lag thus reducing efficiency.

He said, “The ministry is statutorily responsible for providing an enabling environment necessary for the establishment and growth of all kinds of businesses which informed the computerising and automating of some of its critical functions.

He said: “The process will result in proper policy formulation, planning, implementation, gathering, storage, and dissemination of commercial and industrial data for members of the constituency in order to achieve the desired industrial growth and development of the state.”

Ekiyor listed the benefits of DELBI to include “guide to investors, marketers, suppliers, buyers and potential job seekers and enhancement of information gathering necessary for concessionary intervention by government, creditors, and international development agencies.”

Tinubu threatens to sue AIT over documentary, demands N20 billion damages

Former Lagos State Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu  and the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, has threatened to sue the owners of African Independent Television for airing a documentary he deemed defamatory “in all respects”.

In a letter dated March 2, 2015, to the management of Daar Communications Limited, owners of AIT, the former governor gave the organization 24 hours to apologize and retract the publication.

“We are surprised that your media house – and we hold you responsible for the documentary – lacks simple ability to know what is justifiable for publication or understand that freedom of expression does not include deliberate defamation of character,” Mr. Tinubu said in the letter by his lawyer, Tunji Abayomi.

The hour-long documentary, aired on March 1 at 11 p.m., and titled “Unmasking the Real Tinubu” showcased various properties and companies across Lagos purportedly owned by Mr. Tinubu, described as “Nigeria’s biggest landlord”.

The programme also claimed that Mr. Tinubu was “charged for narcotics” in 1993 in the United States.

Mr. Tinubu said that since he was not running for political office, he found the publication about his life “utterly absurd, disrespectful of media responsibility, ethically abusive, malicious and unbecoming of a public institution raised into prominence by shareholders’ funds”.

“More disturbing is your representation that the said documentary was ‘sponsored’ without disclosing the ‘sponsors’. You cannot under law, hide under media freedom or freedom of expression to maliciously injure a citizen’s reputation,” Mr. Tinubu said.

Mr. Tinubu warned the TV station against a repeat broadcast of the documentary which he further described as “indefensibly false and malicious.”

“Also note that we are claiming damages of N20 billion from your Company/Media house for the expressly defamatory publication in issue. Failure of which, we will immediately initiate an action against you.”

''PDP have become a factory of lies'' – Tinubu

Former Lagos state governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has described the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a party that is a factory of lies following claims he had plans to become Nigeria president through a stealthy means.

In a statement issued by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media, Sunday Dare, it said the agent of character assassination in PDP (Femi Fani-Kayode) was only manufacturing lies to sugarcoat its party’s campaign because it knows that it has already lost.
“The PDP campaign continues its descent. This is to be expected because the truth stings them harshly, they have become a factory of lies. A few days ago, the agent of character assassination who doubles as the busy hatchet man of the PDP accused Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of plotting to be vice president then President through subterfuge,” the statement read.
“Clearly, he has exposed the confusion and contradiction within his party and has veered off from the real debate. But he cannot avoid the storm of change already unleashed by the APC.
“However, the only subterfuge involved in this entire episode, is that eating at Fani-kayode’s mind. His mind is an agent of mayhem and a foreigner to facts. The last time we looked the APC ticket was a Buhari/Osinbajo one. That is what is and that is what shall stand.
Tinubu noted that their fictitious stories cannot stop the wind of change.
“The fiction of a thousand Fani Kayodes cannot stop an idea whose time has come. The APC is committed to upholding and respecting the tenets of democracy and of bringing a new government that will usher in a new day for a new Nigeria. And that is what Fani Kayode and his party cannot handle.
“The nation has had enough of their shamelessness. Please pack up. It is time to go,” the statement read.

Jonathan meets with leaders of South South South East United Assembly yesterday

President Jonathan with leaders of South South South East United Assembly meeting at the State House, Marina, yesterday, Reuben Abati said on his instagram page.

Meet Prof Yemi Osinbajo's father or brother?

So, recently APC VP candidate Prof Osinbajo took the media back to his childhood village and home in Ogun state where the photo above was captured by an APC cameraman. The man in the photo was initially said to be Osinbajo's father (see the resemblance) but APC says that is his brother not father.

So here's why this photo is controversial;

Then PDP people are trying to use the pic to their benefit. They are saying whether brother or father, why is he living in such a condition? Below is what they posted on a Pro-Jonathan Facebook page, Hope for Nigeria;
"What is the difference between someone's father and his brother, that Yemi Osibanjo will neglect them, even when he has been blessed by God as a Pastor, senior partner at SimmonsCooper Partners, a Professor, 8 years as Tinubu's Attorney General, director in Bola Tinubu's Alpha Beta Limited. How can you manage a country, when you can't take care of your relatives?"
Some folks are saying the guy is not even related to Osinbajo. We don't even know what to believe any more. I doff my hat for Naija Politicians!

How Edo Pastors shared ‘N7 billion PDP bribe’ – APC

Ayo Oritsejafor is the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN)

The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has said over 400 clergymen in the state shared money offered as bribe to the Christian Association of Nigeria by the Peoples Democratic Party to support President Goodluck Jonathan in the March 28 presidential election, according to SR.

The party, in a statement on Sunday, said some of the pastors drawn mostly from the Pentecostal bloc of the association, got between N50, 000 and N2 million from the N7 billion CAN allegedly received from the PDP and Mr. Jonathan.

It, however, praised the Edo State chairman of CAN, Peter Imasuen, for not participating in the sharing of the largesse.

A Borno-based pastor, Kallamu Musa-Dikwa, recently alleged that President Jonathan, who is also the candidate of the PDP for the March 28 election, gave the Christian body N7 billion to support him.

The clergyman, a former associate pastor with E.Y.N. Church in Maiduguri, said the money was routed through the national secretariat of CAN, which in turn shared N3 million each to its state branches.

Mr. Musa-Dikwa, who is who is the Executive Director, Voice of Northern Christian Movement, spoke in Kaduna a few weeks after the Governor of Rivers State and Director General of the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation, Chibuike Amaechi, said the pastors were given N6 billion to back Mr. Jonathan.

The CAN has since denied the allegation.

The APC said on Sunday in the statement by its spokesperson, Godwin Erhahon, that an insider in the Christian body revealed to it at the weekend in Benin City how the money was shared.

It said “over four hundred pastors in Edo State, majority of whom are of the Pentecostal churches, shared from the bribe with some of them getting between five hundred thousand and fifty thousand naira each.”

It added that “a few others from the so-called super churches received as much as two million naira each because they claimed that their churches have more members.”

The party said it was informed that while the national leadership of CAN disbursed N4 billion to its branches, it kept back N3 billion and left an instruction that Catholic churches be left out of the largesse from the PDP

It said some of the bishops in Edo State were dissatisfied with the “greedy manner” their bosses shared the money.

The APC said it could reveal authoritatively that Mr. Imasuen was one of the state chairmen of CAN “who were godly and patriotic enough to reject the bribe which was given to Christian leaders to campaign for President Jonathan and condemn APC Presidential Candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari.”

The party also claimed that one of those who participated in the sharing of the money was already finding ways to make peace with Mr. Buhari.

Premium Times could not reach Mr. Imasuen to speak on the APC claim.

However, Mr. Erhahon said on phone, Sunday, that its claim was authentic as some of the clergymen in Edo State confirmed the offering of bribe to the CAN.
