FG appoints acting Auditor-General of the Federation

The Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) on Tuesday approved the appointment of Mrs Florence Anyanwu as the acting Auditor-General of the Federation (AuGF).

This is contained in a statement issued by Mrs Olawunmi Ogunmosunle, the Chief Press Secretary, Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation in Abuja.

It said that Anyanwu took over in acting capacity due to the retirement of Mr Samuel Ukura, who attained the mandatory age of 60 years on June 5, 2016.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation had directed the FCSC to appoint an acting AuGF, pending the appointment of a substantive one within three months.

“Mrs Florence Anyanwu was the Director of Audit in-charge of Legislature, Judiciary and Security Agencies Department of the Office of the Auditor-General for the Federation, Nigeria.

“She has more than 32 years’ experience as a professional auditor. She joined the OAuGF in 1984 as Auditor 1, and became Director of Audit in 2011.

“She earned her membership of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria in 2004 and was conferred a fellow in 2013.

“She is also a member of Chartered Institute of Taxation Nigeria, 2011, and Nigeria Institute of Management in 2004,” it said.

A 12-year-old contestant on 'So You Think You Can Dance' Chi Tahani vomited on Judge Paula Abdul after her audition.

The young dancer made it through to the next round and she went to give all the judges hugs as a thank you for putting her through. As Paula gave her a hug, Chi looked like she couldn’t hold it back and then let the vomit go.

''It’s OK honey,'' Paula told the embarrassed youngster. ''It's OK.''

''I've never had anyone just vomit on me like that,'' Paula told the crowd.

Chi later explained that Paula squeezed her ''too tight and all the happiness came out on her jacket.

Militants set to test fire Missiles at govt buildings in Abuja, Lagos, Kaduna

The Joint Niger Delta Liberation Force, JNDLF,  which threatened, last week, to test six missiles in the Niger Delta states, beginning from tomorrow, said: “ it shall fire these missiles’ simultaneously at the night, as this will enable every Nigerians to see the movement of the missiles and equally to believe us of our seriousness attached to the final breakup as predicted by the United States of America (USA).”

General Akotebe Darikoro, Commander, General Duties, General Torunanaowei Latei, Creeks Network Coordinator, General Agbakakuro Owei-Tauro, Pipelines Bleeding Expert and General Pulokiri Ebiladei, Intelligence Bureau of JNDLF, made the claim in a statement.

JNDLF asserted: ''In our final meeting it was resolved that the Nigerian Communication Satellite Orbit should be shut down so that it will avoid the cause of electronic radiation to human lives.''

''Also, the followings occupants of these buildings should as a matter of urgency vacate in them immediately in their own interest to save their lives because our fight any human blood, but to destroy all those infrastructures that were built with our oil and gas monies in this country.

''We will make federal government and oil companies to suffer as they have made the people of Niger Delta region suffers over the years from environmental degradation, and environmental pollution.

Buhari to travel to London to ''Rest” and ''See an E.N.T Specialist” for persistent ear infection

President Buhari will on Monday June 6 proceed on a 10-day vacation to London, according to his spokesman Femi Adesina.

''President Muhammadu Buhari will take 10 days off and travel to London on Monday June 6th, to rest,'' Adesina said in a statement Sunday on Facebook. ''During the holiday, he will see an E.N.T. specialist for a persistent ear infection. The President was examined by his Personal Physician and an E.N.T Specialist in Abuja and was treated. Both Nigerian doctors recommended further evaluation purely as a precaution.''

Sultan announces commencement of Ramadan

Sa’ad Abubakar, sultan of Sokoto and head of Muslims in Nigeria, has announced the sighting of the new moon, which heralds the commencement of Ramadan.

Ramadan is the holy Islamic month when a 30-day fasting is observed.

Abubakar made the announcement late Sunday in Sokoto, saying the moon had been sighted in different parts of the country.

“I have the greatest pleasure to announce to you that today June 5, 2016 marked the end of Shaaban and therefore Monday June 6, 2016 marks the beginning of Ramadan 1437 AH,” he said.

“Reliable reports from Muslim leaders across the country show that the new moon of Ramadan has been sighted in various parts of the country.

Earlier on Saturday, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) issued a statement asking Muslims to look out for new moon.

Is-haq Oloyede, secretary-general of NSCIA, said if the moon is sighted on Sunday, the fast would commence on Monday, he said if the moon is not sighted on Sunday, the fast would commence on Tuesday.

FG releases list of recovered loot amounting to N115,792,760,499

The Federal Government on Saturday released the highly anticipated list of recovered loot. In a statement by the Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the government revealed the recoveries were made between May 29, 2015 and May 25, 2016.

The government gave the breakdown of the loot as N78, 325,354,631.82; $185,119,584.61; £3,508,355.46  and €11, 250.

A conversion of the funds using the official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the amount adds up to N115,792,760,499.

The Muhammadu Buhari-led government added that a separate amount of cash and assets worth over N2tn had also been seized. However, the properties and cash are under legal contention.

The assets and cash seized under interim forfeiture totaled: $9bn, N126bn, £2.4m and €303,399.

A conversion of the worth of assets and cash seized based on the official CBN exchange rate totaled: 1,918,113,864,063.

The government added that funds awaiting return from foreign Jurisdictions total $321,316,726.1; £6,900,000 and €11,826.11.
