A-Non Governmental Organization (NGO), Civil Society Awareness Response on Epidemic Diseases (CARED) yesterday recommended that hotels, religious centres and other public places in all the parts of the country should be fumigated from time to time to prevent the spread of Ebola virus in the country.
The Co-ordinator of the organization, Mr Stephen Aremu, who made the recommendation at a press Conference in Osogbo, called on the Federal Government to act fast on the recommendation .
He argued also that “areas where bats and other animals are populated should be sprayed to prevent the people from contacting the virus through consumption of animals.”
The Coordinator, who frowned at hospitals rejecting patients with EVD symptoms, charged them to desist from doing so, saying it could” lead to unnecessary loss of lives through ailments with similar symptoms with the deadly disease”.
” Owing to the poor understanding of the disease and how it can be managed, a patient living with HIV, but manifesting symptoms relating to Ebola was rejected in several hospitals he went to for medical help in Lagos.
It is frighten that medical personnel could do such a thing”. “We have also had reports from other states in the country of rejection of patients by health care giver over the fear that they may be Ebola patients.
So far, from reports all these rejected patients are not carrying the disease, but were denied attention by those that should take care of them. “This situation has led to death in some cases and may make people suffering from the disease not to present themselves for treatment. It may worsen the situation”.
