Joan Rivers' family members are trying to remain optimistic that the legendary comedienne will recover. Rivers, 81, is currently in a medically-induced coma at a New York City hospital, where she was rushed Thursday after she stopped breathing during surgery on her vocal chords..

While Rivers' family members have been keeping a vigil over the Fashion Police commentator, her professional colleagues and celebrity friends have also been tweeting their support.

On Friday, Melissa Rivers issued a statement through her mother's website thanking their friends and fans for the kind words. "My mother would be so touched by the tributes and prayers that we have received from around the world," she wrote. "Her condition remains serious but she is receiving the best treatment and care possible. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts as we pray for her recovery."
Melissa Rivers will decide in the next few days whether to remove her mother from life support, according to reports.
