Anti-APEC protesters in Manila clash with police

Protesters burn an effigy near where Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders' meeting is taking place on Thursday in the Philippine capital Manila.

Human rights and pro-labour groups have been protesting against the APEC summit, saying it works to benefit only multinationals and rich countries at the expense of developing economies.

Philippine security forces on Thursday fired water cannons to prevent hundreds of protesters from disrupting the summit, as leaders including US President Barack Obama were gathering for the group photograph that is customary at the annual event.
