Several pictures from the Jiddari Polo area of Maiduguri show men and women fleeing their homes to areas considered safe within the state capital as the city has been thrown into chaos.
According to reports, the civilian JTF mobilized to the area in rapid response as people cheered them on.
The men of the Nigerian Army later arrived at the scene of the attack and exchanged bullets freely with the Boko Haram terrorists.
Eye witnesses are putting figures around 200 persons as well as many houses gutted by fire.
Another report noted that “the insurgents have been repelled by the military as at the time of filing this report my sister is looking for two of her kids”
Another maiduguri resident blamed the Nigerian Army for making the city vulnerable to the Boko Haram attacks, in his words, Mr. Abdulrahman said; “What happened today, is a consequence of locking up town. Keeping a whole town dead for two days is not a security tactic but a senseless act that makes the town more vulnerable”
The Nigerian Military has maintained it was winning the battle against Boko Haram.
