Court sacks Secondus as PDP acting chairman

The Acting National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Uche Secondus was on Tuesday December 15 ordered to vacate office within 14 days by Justice Hussein Baba of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Abuja

The judge, while delivering ruling on a suit filed by the ex-Special Adviser to the former President Jonathan on Political Matters, Ahmed Gulak, said Chief Secondus was occupying the position of the Acting National Chairman of the party illegally.

Baba, in his judgement that lasted about two hours, held that the position of the Acting National Chairman of the party was zoned to the North-East and therefore could not be occupied by Chief Secondus.

He ordered that Chief Secondus should vacate the office within 14 days, adding that the plaintiff or any other party member worthy of that position should assume the position of the Acting National Chairman.

Meanwhile, counsel to PDP, Mr. Paul Isaiah, said the party would appeal the judgement adding that a stay of execution would also be filed.

''We are going to appeal this judgement. Apart from the appeal, we are also going to file a stay of execution of the judgement because the National Convention of the party is in March next year,'' he said.

Gulak had in the suit filed before the court asked it to sack Secondus on the ground that by the provision of the PDP constitution and its zoning principle, he was the proper person to replace the last chairman, Adamu Muazu, who hailed from the North-East geo-political zone.
