Nigerians react to Trump and Buhari's phone conversation

Nigerians said they are yet to confirm that telephone conversation between U,S. President Donald Trump and Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari that the special adviser on media and publicity to Buhari, Femi Adesina claimed the two leaders held on Monday (February 13) 2017.

According to some Nigerians, they have been busy checking Trump's twitter handle as well as the White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer and still no news of such.

Nigerians said they have gone through the three well known online news platforms - Reuters, The Associated Press and AFP news Agency and they have not reported any news that the U.S. President and Nigerian leader spoke on the phone.

Nigerians said they have been on their CNN Television screens since 3:45pm today waiting to see if the CNN will report the news.

Below is a STATEMENT by Adesina claiming both leaders' conversation was cordial:

President Muhammadu Buhari this afternoon from London spoke to President Donald Trump on telephone at the request of the American President.

The conversation was cordial and President Buhari congratulated Trump on his election as President of the United States, and on his cabinet.

The two leaders discussed ways to improve cooperation in the fight against terrorism through provision of necessary equipment.

President Trump encouraged President Buhari to keep up the good work he is doing, and also commended him for the efforts made in rescuing 24 of the Chibok Girls and the strides being taken by the Nigerian military.

President Trump assured the Nigerian President of US readiness to cut a new deal in helping Nigeria in terms of military weapons to combat terrorism.

President Trump also invited President Buhari to Washington at a mutually convenient date.
