Boat Capsizes In Lagos, Nigeria, One Missing, Nine Rescued

At least one person drowned and nine others rescued as a passenger boat capsized in Lagos. This came barely a month after a passenger boat capsized under Bonny Camp bridge, Victoria Island axis of the state on May 18, killing one of the nine passengers on board.

It was gathered that the Coconut Island-bound boat capsized at about 4:00 pm on June 16, 2014 between Ojo and Tin Can Island, Apapa Local Government Area.

An eyewitness explained that all passengers on board the ill‑fated boat wore life jackets. But immediately the boat capsized, one of the passengers, a male, drowned and his life jacket immediately floated.

He noted that they could not determine the cause of the incident, saying the boat was certified okay before leaving Tin Can shores.
