The Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC ) has declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP ), Chief Nyesom Wike, winner of the gubernatorial elections in Rivers State.
Announcing the results, the Returning Officer, Prof. Faraday Orumwense, said Wike polled 1,029,102 votes (87.77 per cent) to beat the candidate of the All Progressives Congress ( APC ), Dr. Dakuku Peterside, who got 124,896 votes (10.65 per cent).
The candidate of Labour Party (LP), Prince Tonye Princewill, polled 10,142 (0.86 per cent) to come third.
INEC also declared candidates of the PDP winners in 25 of the 32 house of assembly seats contested. The APC won only one seat while six seats were declared inconclusive.
A release signed by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dame Gesila Khan, a new date for election in constituencies where it was inconclusive would be announced in due course.
