Speaking on Friday (June 19) when he paid homage to the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruk Umar, the President said that when he joined politics in 2002, many people did not give him a chance because they knew his antecedents as a military officer.
Buhari stated that the 2015 polls had clearly shown that it is God that chooses who becomes a leader, saying that: “It is not by power, it is not by wealth but by the Grace of God that I won the election.”
He added that he decided to contest elections because he was committed to serving the people and not to be served or to amass wealth.
Speaking further, the President said he has the “integrity and commitment to serve the people”, while adding that he would fulfill his promises to the people.
