Saraki calls on Muslim faithful in Nigeria to seek the face of Allah during Ramadan

Senate President, Bukola Saraki has called on Muslims in Nigeria to pray for God’s guidance. In a statement on Thursday, Saraki said as the faithful Muslims have commence its fasting in the month of Ramadan, they should use this period to be sober and ask for guidance.

Press Statement:

Today, I join the Muslim faithful all over Nigeria and the world as we commence the activities of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

This period of fasting and sober reflection must be seen by all Muslims as an opportunity to ask for the divine intervention of the Almighty in the affairs of our beloved country. Specifically, we must pray for Allah’s guidance in our quest to rebuild Nigeria under this new administration.

As we pray for God’s mercies over our lives in this season, we must remember that Ramadan is one of the pillars of Islam, and as such, we must use this period to seek the face of Allah for all our troubles. As we do this, we must also remember to be of exemplary conduct at all times as holiness is key to maximizing the spiritual and physical benefits of the Holy Month.

We must also take the time to pray for our President, Muhammadu Buhari, whose efforts over the past few weeks to reach out to our friends and allies both regionally and worldwide, to seek lasting partnerships that will move Nigeria forward.

As this administration plays its part in furthering the plight of our citizens, I urge our Islamic scholars and teachers to be guarded in their utterances during this fasting period and beyond. Muslim scholars should educate their audience of what is expected of Muslims during and after the Holy Month to earn Allah’s blessings. Nigeria’s Muslim faithful must be taught according to the true teachings of Islam and the great Prophet, rather than be instructed to engage in mutual recrimination that is not beneficial to our collective interests.

In this regard, as we begin this year’s Ramadan fast, we must be firm in our pursuit of good deeds, and we must also pray for the peace and unity of our dear country.

We must also remember to be courageous in all our undertakings and of exemplary service to our communities. Finally, we must be helpful to the needy amongst us, keeping in mind that these actions are in conformity with the sacred commandments of the Almighty.

Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki (CON)
President OF the Senate
Federal Republic of Nigeria
