Taraba Speaker seeks ways of generating more revenue

The Speaker of Taraba House of Assembly, Abel Diah, has stated that his new government in the state is on a rescue mission to enable it become self-sufficient without having to rely on the Federal Government for funds.

Mr. Diah made the remark in his office on Thursday when executives of the Correspondents Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Taraba state chapter paid him a courtesy visit in Jalingo.

''Government agencies must ensure that internally generated revenues are made public. Concealing IGR would, henceforth, be regarded as an attempt to divert public funds,'' he said.

He also said it was imperative for revenues generated by agencies to go into government coffers without any leakage.

''We are on a rescue Taraba mission. We will block all revenue leakages to conserve more funds for the development of the state.''

Mr. Diah, who said the media played a critical role in stabilizing democracy, urged the journalists to always balance their reports.

Earlier, the Chairman of the correspondents’ chapel, Oluwole Ayodele, told the speaker that the journalists would continue to cover proceedings of the House objectively.

He congratulated the speaker on his recent election to the office.
