China, Taiwan presidents shake hands at historic summit

President Xi Jinping of China shook hands with the president of Taiwan Ma Ying-jeou in the first ever meeting of the neighbors and longtime rivals since 1949 at the Shangri-La Hotel in the city-state of Singapore on Saturday.

The meeting is a high point in the two leaders’ efforts to bridge the divisions of civil war and decades of animosity.
