The undercurrents of international politics these days is driven by economics and profit engineering. Diplomatic relationships are sustained by strings of revenues and mutual benefits. This is also the reason that makes some countries fight to host sports tournaments. Of course it's not for the love of the game.
So, when a President of a country knows the economic dynamics of a business that originates from his country, plus the amount it repatriates to the home country, he would move mountains to protect it.
We all sat here in Nigeria and watched how Nigerian businesses were ransacked and burnt down on the streets of SA. We saw the Xenophobic onslaught on Nigerians. What did our country do? We set up a committee to look into it. What compensations did those whose businesses took the hit and heat get?
But NCC places a penalty on MTN and I must be the first to agree that it was a lot of money, And what did the South African Government do? Exactly, they sent their president to come resolve it.
Some people just claim to be learned fellows for nothing. That someone is a fashion designer doesn't mean he can not read between the lines of national politics and the twisted jargons of intrinsic economics of a country. Not to talk of a person who makes his living from examining the current affairs of a country like ours, dissecting the true values of national conversations to enable him milk out the humour from issues in the front burner!
Of course it's a lot of reading, observation, assimilation and comprehension. To have an informed mind takes more than what white collar job you have. It's the hunger of that mind and what you feed it. It's not titles.
You can be a lawyer, accountant, geologist or even journalist and an unemployed dancer, who is an avid reader possessing a fertile mind nurtured by information consumption would be a better analysts of issues than what your certificate makes you believe. Learned fellow indeed! Nonsense!
