Oscar-winning actress Patty Duke has died on Monday morning at a hospital in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, where she had lived for the last 25 years with fourth husband Michael Pearce. She was 69.
The news was confirmed Tuesday by one of her representatives, Mitchell Stubbs.
"Anna 'Patty Duke' Pearce passed away this morning March 29, 2016 at 1:20 am," his statement read. "Her cause of death was sepsis from a ruptured intestine. She was a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a friend, a mental health advocate and a cultural icon. She will be missed."
Patty received an Academy Award for her work in The Miracle Worker at age 16, and went on to star as two cousins on The Patty Duke Show.
Patty was also an active mental health activist after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 1982. She dedicated years to increasing, promoting research, and taking away stigmas for sufferers.
