UPDATE: Blogger Iroegbu Emenike detained on order of Abia State government over publication of false news

The National Acting President of the Guild of Professional Bloggers of Nigeria, Chris Kehinde Nwandu has issued a statement on his Facebook handle following the detention of Mr. Iroegbu Emenike, a Nigerian blogger who was arrested by the State Security Service (SSS) in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State at about 1:00 pm on Tuesday, September 6, 2016.

''I woke up this morning to be bombarded with the report of the detention of A 38-year-old blogger and publisher of an online news medium, Abia Facts, Mr. Iroegbu Emenike by the State Security Service (SSS) in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State at about1:00 pm on Tuesday, September 6, 2016...My further investigation has shown that he was detained on the order of Abia State government over some stories..The writer was alleged to have written that Abia State governor buried a nine year old girl alive at government house ..He also among several other stories published that the governor killed Igbos in ABA ,went to India to swear an oath with former governor T A Orji as well as agree on grazing rights with Governor Aminu Tambuawal among many other allegations.. He has been picked in Uyo and is now on his way to Umuahia to come and substantiate his claims.. According to what I gathered, he has been invited severally by the police to come and make statements but he refused..We ll keep you posted as the story unfolds.. It ll also be good to hear his own side of the story.. As the President of the Guild of Professional Bloggers of Nigeria, our aim is to sanitize this profession and bring some level of credibility to what we do.''
