Group seeks passage of Whistle Blower Protection Bill

A Kaduna-based group, Coalition for Buhari on Thursday urged the National Assembly to fast track the passage of the Whistle Blower Protection Bill, to strengthen the fight against corruption.

The Convener of the Coalition, Hajiya Zuwaira Bakori made the appeal at a press conference in Kaduna.

She said that the bill and others before the National Assembly would help to significantly propel ongoing efforts to wipe out corruption in Nigeria.

Bakori said that the legislators must give Nigerians a voice and the required legal protection to move the country away from “a terrible past, and from days of wastages, leakages and impunity.”

She also stressed that the intervention by NASS was necessary, to checkmate efforts by beneficiaries of corruption to fight back.

According to her, such corrupt Nigerians are already whipping up religious, tribal and regional sentiments to hoodwink gullible Nigerians into blaming President Muhammadu Buhari for the outcome of their sustained damages to the nation.

She said, “They will bring all alternative narration against the President.

“They were not vocal when their voices should have been loudest, they were quite and supported the draining of our treasury and even claimed Chibok girls were not abducted or Boko Haram never existed.”

Bakori noted that the beneficiaries of corruption have also been quite on the successes recorded by the Federal Government in the area of security, agriculture, diversification of the economy and infrastructure rehabilitation.

“The TSA has raked in N5.2tn and the country has saved over N3tn from the rehabilitation of NNPC and removal of fuel subsidy.

“This administration has increased external reserve to over $30bn after it was massively depleted by the past government.”

She also spoke on the current recession, stressing that “the journey to recession was initiated long ago, but we are optimistic about the economy’s recovery.”

Bakori urged all patriotic Nigerians to pray for the President Buhari’s return from London to continue with the good work he has started.
