Peugeot To Restart Production In Nigeria By June
Peugeot Automobile Nigeria (PAN) Limited, is planing to recommence operations in its Kaduna, Northern Nigeria, assembly plant next month, according to Ibrahim Boyi, the company’s MD.
The automaker has is working closely with its French-based Technical Partner, Automobile Peugeot France, to start test assembling operations in June. This will enable it position itself to enjoy the benefits provided under the country’s new auto policy which seek to boost domestic production and enhance local capacity.
“We have full back up support for the vehicles, because they are going to be assembled and maintained here by Nigerians and for Nigerians,” Boyo said during a visit to the state minister for Trade and Investment, Dr. Samuel Ortom.
To reposition its brand in the Nigerian automobile competitive market, the PAN boss said Peugeot is going to introduce very competitive vehicles made for the Nigerian roads that can compete with leading brands.
Encouraged by PAN’s recent progress, Vice President of Peugeot, Yves Moulin, said his company is motivated to work with PAN given Nigeria’s position as the leading and fastest growing economy in Africa and arguably the largest consumer market on the continent.
He also praised the Nigeria’s automobile policy, saying that the policy will not only help in the area of job creation, but add value to the country and open more opportunities for investors in the country’s automobile sector.
“With the right regulations in place, I am sure we will be able to work together to add value, attract suppliers, create jobs and automobile clusters.’’
