IG orders investigation of Akwa Ibom, Rivers REC

In a letter copied to the Civil Society Network Against Corruption (CSNAC) by the Office of Inspector General of Police, in response to a petition demanding urgent investigation of fraudulent manipulation of election results in Akwa Ibom and Rivers states governorship elections of April 11, 2015 by two resident electoral commissioners, the IGP has directed the Deputy Inspector General of Police in Charge of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department to investigate and report to him.

In a move indicative of progressive and pragmatic change in the management of the Nigeria Police Force, the Principal Staff Officer to the IGP, Commissioner of Police Austin I. Iwar, in a cover letter with reference number CB:7000/IGP.SEC/ABJ/VOL.227/306 and dated 19th May, 2015 forwarded CSNAC’s petition to the DIG, under the IGP’s instruction, with a demand for investigation and report back to the IGP.

The Chairman of CSNAC, Olanrewaju Suraju commends the responsiveness, promptitude, proactive and professional approach of the new IGP to his duty and leadership of the Police.
