Maria Sharapova withdraws from US Open, Daria Kasatkina to replace her!

Maria Sharapova has withdrawn from the US Open following a leg injury, according to a statement she released on her Facebook page on Sunday August 30.

The 28-year-old Russian world no 3 hasn't appeared in a WTA tournament since her semifinal defeat at Wimbledon back in July.

''Unfortunately I will not be able to compete in this years US Open,'' the statement read. ''I have done everything possible to be ready but it was just not enough time. To all my amazing fans, I will be back in the Asian swing in a few weeks and look forward to finishing the year healthy and strong.''

This is the second time in three years that Sharapova has had to withdraw from the US Open.

Fellow Russian Daria Kasatkina will replace Sharapova in the draw as a qualifying lucky loser.

We wish you a speedy recovery, Maria!
