Chelsea striker Diego Costa put his hands in the face of Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny as they wrestled in the box during their Barclays Premier League win over Arsenal on Saturday September 19 at Stamford Bridge (stadium).
The FA’s independent regulatory commission found the 26-year-old Spanish footballer guilty of violent conduct following his collision with Laurent Koscielny on Saturday.
Chelsea say they are 'extremely disappointed' with the decision.
''We are extremely disappointed with the FA Regulatory Commission's decision to suspend Diego Costa,'' read the club’s statement. ''We will await their written reasons before commenting further.''
Gabriel, 30, who was due to serve a three-match ban, had his punishment rescinded after the Gunners provided video evidence to cast an element of doubt about the donkey kick at Costa.
The Brazilian defender has to answer a separate charge of improper conduct after refusing to leave the field of play, but he has until Thursday to respond to that charge.
Arsenal and Chelsea have both been charged with failing to control their players and are anticipating sizeable fines from the FA later this week.
