Former Nigerian international John Ene Okon is dead

Former Nigerian midfielder, John Ene Okon, has passed away on Tuesday March 15 at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital in Cross Rivers state.

Sadly, Okon died on his 47th birthday. He was born on March 15, 1969. The cause of his death was however not disclosed.

Okon who is a CAF licensed coach, until his death was the head coach of Calabar Rovers FC.

He was an influential member of the Flying Eagles squad to the 1987 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, where the team crashed out in the first round.

Okon played alongside Etim Esin, Thompson Oliha, Nduka Ugbade, Adeolu Adekola amongst several others.
