TAN Pro-Jonathan Rally Mishap: Governor Aliyu condoles victims

Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger has condoled with those injured at a collapsed pavilion during a pro-Jonathan rally on Saturday in Minna.

Many dignitaries were involved in the collapsed pavilion during the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria TAN, North central rally in support of President Goodluck Jonathan for 2015.

Israel Ebije, the Chief Press Secretary to Mr. Aliyu, spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria during the governor’s visit to some victims at the IBB Specialist Hospital, Minna.

“As the Chief host, the governor feels highly concerned on the sad incident during the rally.
“As usual with the Chief Servant (Mr. Aliyu), he is going round the hospitals to commiserate with our visitors. The medical bills will be footed by the state.
“Some of the victims of the unfortunate incident have been discharged, while the others are still receiving treatment,” he said.
Despite the accident and after the injured were taken to hospitals, the rally continued.

Mr. Aliyu at the rally urged the people of the state and participants “to consider what happened in one of the stands as a sacrifice for success”.

TAN has been staging rallies across the country in support of Mr. Jonathan’s re-election bid despite the president personally advising political, religious and other groups to desist from convening large gatherings as a way of curtailing the spread of the Ebola Virus Disease.

President Jonathan has declined to halt the rallies despite widespread calls on him to do so.
