Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev sentenced to death

The Boston Marathon bomber was this evening sentenced to death for killing three people and injuring 264 people in the 2013 Boston attack, according to CNN.

Dzhokhar and his older brother planted two homemade bombs near the finishing line of the Boston race, killing people and causing grave injury. Some lost their legs. Dzhokhar's brother later died in a shootout with police when they tried to escape.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 21, had faced a 30-count indictment, with 17 of the charges carrying the death penalty. The jury at his trial today said they were unanimous on six of counts that Tsarnaev should be administered a lethal injection.

Dzhokhar, a former college student showed no emotion as the verdicts were read out but several other people in the public gallery broke down in tears.
