Don’t get killed because you believe in Jesus Christ – CAN leader

The chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Ugheli, Delta State, Diamond Emuobor, has urged Christians to ‘own swords’ and defend themselves.

Emuobor said the attacks by Fulani herdsmen cannot be left undefended.

He was quoted as saying, “Christians should defend themselves and he who has no sword, should sell his coat and buy one to defend himself.

“We are all human beings; nobody should catch you like a snail and slaughter you because you believe in Jesus Christ,” Emuobor said.

The clergy who is also the General Overseer of the Trinity Gospel Mission alleged that the killing in Northern Nigeria especially in Southern Kaduna is an attempt to wipe out Christianity in the country.

He added that it is not unbiblical for Christians to defend themselves against such attacks.

Emuobor however, advised the federal government to work towards ending the incessant killing of Christians in Nigeria.

“We all would not die and those of us, who are alive, have the right to defend ourselves. Jesus says in the Book of Luke that those who have no sword should sell their coats and buy one for the defence of their lives,” he said.

During the weekend the founder of the Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide, Apostle Johnson Suleman, also called on his church members to defend themselves against the rampaging Fulani herdsmen.

The clergy urged his members to kill and decapitate any herdsmen that attmepts to attack them or the church.

However, Suleman’s statement has raised controversies with operatives of the State Security Service making an attempt to arrest him in Ekiti state on Wednesday, January 25.
