A 25-year-old farmer, Sunday Abah, was on Tuesday remanded in prison on the orders of a Makurdi Magistrates’ Court.
Abah is standing trial on charges bordering on criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.
When the case came up for mention, the plea of the accused person was not taken for lack of jurisdiction.
The prosecutor, Insp. Abraham Akule, told the court that the case was reported at Otukpo Police Station by the Caretaker Chairman, Otukpo Local Government Area, Mr Ijache Udeh, on April 9, 2016.
Akule said that the complainant sent his boys namely, Oche Okopi and Adakole Baba, all male of Ondo Ogobia village to his farm, but they were attacked on the way.
He further said that the attack was led by Ijache’s younger brother, Benjamin Udeh, one Ocholije Ogah and others armed with guns and other weapons.
The prosecutor said that the victims were shot in their heads and they died instantly.
Akule said the attackers then took the bodies and threw into the bush along Ondo Amala village in Otukpo L.G.A. road.
He said during police investigation, Benjamin Udeh and Ocholije Ogah were arrested and arraigned before Chief Magistrates’ Court 6.
Akule said upon further investigation, Sunday Abah was later arrested in connection with the crime while others were still at large.
He said investigation into the matter was still ongoing and prayed the court for another date for mention.
Akule said the offences contravened Section 97 and 222 of the Penal Code Laws of Benue State 2004.
The Magistrate, Mrs Franca Yuwa adjourned the case till Feb. 6, for further mention.
