George HW Bush moved out of ICU; Barbara Bush discharged

Former President George H.W. Bush is now out of intensive care while his wife Barbara Bush, a former first lady has been sent home from hospital, said doctors treating the couple at a Houston hospital on Monday.

Bush, 92, and Barbara, 91, were admitted to Houston Methodist Hospital on Wednesday. Doctors said he could be discharged as early as Friday or the weekend.

The couple released a first photo of themselves above since their hospitalization and thanked supporters via the Twitter account of their post – White House spokesman, Jim McGraw.

''President and Mrs @GeorgeHWBush thank their fellow Americans and friends from around the world for their prayers and good wishes,''  McGraw tweeted.

Bush, who was suffering from bacterial pneumonia and was intubated during a 48-hour period to help him breathe. He is now breathing on his own.
