Delta State Government has commenced the issuance of the State Business Identification Cards, DELBI cards, to entrepreneurs who are registered with it for the conduct of businesses.
The state Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Dr Chris Ekiyor, who stated this during the flag-off ceremony on the Enlistment and Issuance of the Delta State Business Identification Card, DELBI card, noted that business transactions were becoming more complex globally.
Stressing the need for proper administration using innovative information and communication technologies, Ekiyor said operations relating to functions and services were carried out manually and could cause time lag thus reducing efficiency.
He said, “The ministry is statutorily responsible for providing an enabling environment necessary for the establishment and growth of all kinds of businesses which informed the computerising and automating of some of its critical functions.
He said: “The process will result in proper policy formulation, planning, implementation, gathering, storage, and dissemination of commercial and industrial data for members of the constituency in order to achieve the desired industrial growth and development of the state.”
Ekiyor listed the benefits of DELBI to include “guide to investors, marketers, suppliers, buyers and potential job seekers and enhancement of information gathering necessary for concessionary intervention by government, creditors, and international development agencies.”
