Police officer shot in North Philadelphia Thursday - NBC10

A Philadelphia Police officer and a suspect were both shot in North Philadelphia Thursday.

The unidentified 22nd District officer was shot in the head on 22nd Street and Lehigh Avenue around 4:45 p.m.

He was rushed to Temple University Hospital where he is in extremely critical condition.

Police told NBC10 two people were arrested in connection to the shooting. One of the suspects was also shot and was taken to Einstein Hospital. Officials have not yet revealed his condition.

Commissioner Charles Ramsey is currently on his way to the scene.

A woman who works inside a McDonald's in the area who did not want to be identified told NBC10 she saw a "shootout in the parking lot" and a "bunch of police."

Both the Murrell Dobbins Vocational School and Hope Plaza, a local shopping center, are located near the scene of the shooting. Classes were canceled due to the snow and no students were inside the building.
