Michael Phelps ends career with 23rd Olympic gold medal as U.S. wins medley relay

Michael Phelps won a record 23rd Olympic gold medal during his last ever Olympic swim at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics on Saturday night August 13 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Phelps competed in final race with teammates Ryan Murphy, Cody Miller, and Nathan Adrian in the Men's 4x100 medley relay on Saturday.

Earlier that day, the 31-year-old swimmer announced that he will be retiring from professionally swimming after the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics.

''I’ve had the opportunity to be on some of the greatest relays of all time,'' Michael told CBS Sports. ''It truly is an honor.''

While in Rio, Michael has won five gold medals and one silver, making him the most decorated Olympian in history.
