The Weeknd (real name Abel Tesfaye) has donated $250,000 to the 'Black Lives Matter' movement, which is ''is a call to action and a response to the virulent anti-Black racism that permeates our society,'' according to the organization's website.
''Enough is enough. it’s time to stand up for this. we can either sit and watch, or do something about it. the time is now. #blacklivesmatter,'' he tweeted.
Earlier this month, the 26-year-old singer also donated $50,000 to the University of Toronto to help start an Ethiopic Studies program.
The Weeknd's parents are from Ethiopia and he was raised in Canada.
