Vice presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, has declared that the party’s presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, would draw a line between his government and any corrupt members of his party immediately he is sworn in as president.
Osinbajo also declared that Buhari is healthy and strong, adding that “by the grace of God he will run two terms in office by God’s grace.”
Addressing a town hall meeting yesterday in Kaduna, Osinbajo who stood in for Buhari said while answering question of corruption allegation against some of the leaders of APC, that their position on the issue of corruption is clear, adding that no matter who you are, the law would be allowed to take its course.
He said: “On the issue of corruption, what General Buhari has said categorically is that as far as he is concerned, when sworn in as president he would draw the line against anybody who runs afoul of the law. Anything that is being investigated will continue as it is.
“If you are found to be corrupt, you will receive the consequence, no matter who you are. Whether you are his brother, sister, his friends, there would be consequences. That is what he has said and I think that is in line with the position of the party.”
On media report that Buhari has signed a pact to serve one term in office if elected, Osinbajo said:
“He is just too straightforward to do that, you know he can never do that. There is no way he would sign any agreement, so let us be very clear. I don’t even need to ask him; I know him well enough that he will never sign anything of such. The man is healthy and strong and by the grace of God he will run two terms in office.”
On allegation of APC conniving with INEC to rig the coming elections, Osinbajo said the only position taken by APC is that INEC must use the card reader for the elections.
In his welcome address, Governorship candidate of APC in Kaduna State, Nasir el-Rufai, said the meeting was held so that the party leaders could interact with the North-west religious leaders.
He commended the level of support the party has received across the 36 states of the federation, saying if elections hold in a free and fair manner with the use of card reader, APC would record landslide victory.
Some religious leaders who spoke at the event enjoined politicians to embrace peace, reminding them that they need a country first before they can govern.
Some of the party leaders in attendance were the APC national chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun,
Deputy Chairman (North) Shuibu, party governorship candidates in Kaduna, Bauchi and Kebbi among other dignitaries.
