This morning just outside of London, Prince William and Catherine, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, were joined by all the royals for Princess Charlotte’s christening at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene, Sandringham. And like her big brother Prince George before her, Princess Charlotte will be donning a custom, handmade gown comprised of Honiton lace lined with white satin and made by Queen Elizabeth II’s dressmaker, Angela Kelly.
However, it’s the fourth in line to the throne’s mom who also stole the show in the label synonymous with the Middleton reign: Alexander McQueen. Mommy Kate looked absolutely resplendent in a coat by Sarah Burton that was demure, respectful, and summer friendly.
While her mother sported a grand version for her transformation from citizen to royal, Princess Charlotte’s baptismal gown draws on elements dating back to the royal christening of 1841. And while it would have been amazing to see Kate slip little Charlotte into her big brother’s christening dress—we know she is an astute wardrobe repeater—we’re equally pleased that two-month-old Charlotte is already taking her first steps in a haute direction.
