The Nobel Prize winner's death was announced on Saturday by Israel’s Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial.
As a teenager, Wiesel and his family were forced into concentration camps during the Holocaust. His parents and younger sister all died, but he lived and went on to write his memoir in 1955.
Wiesel was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986 for his work in speaking out against racism, violence, and repression.
