Barcelona appoints Luis Enrique as new Coach

The 44-year-old returns to the club he spent time at as player and B-team manager to succeed Gerardo Martino, as Marc-Andre ter Stegen joins and Jose Manuel Pinto leaves

Luis Enrique has been appointed as Barcelona's new coach on a two-year deal.

Gerardo Martino announced he would leave Camp Nou, in mutual agreement with the club, after Barcelona failed to defend their Liga crown - only winning the Supercopa de Espana in his solitary season in charge.

The Catalan giants have swiftly turned to Enrique, who represented Real Madrid and Barca during an illustrious playing career before going on to coach the latter's B team between 2008 and 2011.

He was responsible for Barcelona B earning a record finish of third in the Segunda Division in 2011.

A statement confirming Luis Enrique's arrival revealed he had been appointed following a recommendation from sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta.

In a busy day at Camp Nou, which also saw Lionel Messi sign a new contract, Marc-Andre ter Stergen's move from Borussia Monchengladbach has now been announced, along with Jose Manuel Pinto's contract expiring.

In addition, Gerard Deulofeu and Rafinha, who spent the season on loan at Everton and Celta respectively, have been drafted into the first-team squad by the new manager
