Erdogan to pursue EU membership says Turkey’s deputy PM [see also video]

“It is the first time our president has been elected directly by the people. This is the fırst time ın the history of Turkısh politics and in the history of Turkish democracy, By becoming Turkey’s twelfth president in this way, he now sees he has a mandate from the people and despite the fact that this type of presidency does not come within our constitution, he will develop the model of becoming a powerful presıdent.”
“In terms of our negotiations with the EU things have currently stalled. Some EU countries are trying to prevent Turkey from becoming a full member of the union. But other candidate countries in the past have faced same similar difficulties. We are determined to reach our target on becoming a full EU member,” said Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arınç.
