A Spanish nurse's assistant has tested negative and is now free of Ebola. Teresa Romero Ramos, a Spanish nurse's aide who had contracted Ebola after caring for a patient with the deadly disease, Spain's Special Ebola Committee said Sunday.
Two earlier tests showed her Ebola were almost nil. Sunday, a third test came back negative. Her friend spoke to reporters outside of a hospital and discussed Ramos' condition.
"She got a negative result, she has zero virus. She's waiting for the second test in 48 hours to ratify it. I spoke to her, she's spectacular. We started crying and laughing and she is ready to leave the hospital," Teresa Mesa said.Romero will remain in the hospital for days, possibly weeks, in order to fully recover.
"The last two measurements were in 'background' levels, and there is no significant statistical difference with negative results," Luis Enjuanes, an expert on viruses, said in a phone interview, in English, with CNN. "If for three times, throughout one week, you are background, background, background, in practical terms it means you don't have the virus."
