Independence Day: Saraki congratulates Nigerians

President Muhammadu Buhari and senate president Bukola Saraka share a laugh during the Nigeria's 55th Independence Celebration on Thursday October 1 at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Saraki, Nigeria's number 3 citizen took to his Facebook account to congratulate Nigerians as they celebrate this year 55th anniversary and advised they to work together for a common goal.

''I congratulate Nigerians all around the world as we celebrate the 55th year anniversary of our nation's independence,'' Saraki said.  ''Our country, no doubt is on the threshold of greatness and the commitment and determination of this government remains unshaken. As we mark this anniversary, we must resist despair and come together to be more united than we have ever been. We must continue to value our common purpose to further the cause of our nation.

''On its part, the Senate will continue to work assiduously with the Executive arm of government to realize our development objectives. Our priority is to build a virile socio-political and economic environment and therefore bequeath a better country to our future generations. I commend our President, Muhammadu Buhari for the giant strides his administration has recorded so far in the fight against Boko Haram and other security challenges confronting the country. The Senate will not relent in giving absolute support to the military and other security agencies in taming the menace of insurgency.

''In this regard, I enjoin Nigerians from all walks of life to use the 55th Independence Day celebration to reflect on the nation's journey so far and commit to work for a brighter future for our great nation.

''Let us also continue to pray for the unity and peaceful coexistence among the people our great country. God bless you all, and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.''
