Serena Williams holds her trophy after beating Romanian third seed Simona Halep 6-3 7-6(5) to win the Western and Southern Open at the Linder Family Tennis Centre in Cincinnati, Ohio on Sunday August 23.
The world number one, who will be turning 34 next month claimed her fifth title of 2015 following wins at the Australian Open, in Miami and at the French Open and Wimbledon.
''Thanks to Simona for playing such a great match and always being such a wonderful sportswoman and opponent,'' Serena said. ''You'd think I'd be good at this by now. I get so much love and support at Cincinnati, it makes me want to come back forever and ever! I'm ready. I don't care if I win or lose or break even. I'm ready to start it, get it over with and be done and go on to the next event. But I'm so ready for New York."
''I wish you good luck for the US Open, I know that you can do all four, so good luck and be strong,'' Halep told Williams during the trophy presentation.
The win was also the 69th career title for Williams and moved her ahead of Evonne Goolagong and into fifth place on the all-time list.
Williams heads into the US Open trying to become the first player since Steffi Graf in 1988 to pull off a calendar Grand Slam sweep.
