The emergency meeting between leaders of the All Progressives Congress, President Muhammadu Buhari and members of the National Assembly, ended in futility on Tuesday, June 9.
The impromptu meeting was slated for 9am while the inauguration was scheduled to hold at 10am, however, Buhari was yet to show up as at 11am.
Leaders of the party had convened the emergency meeting in a bid to unite the party ahead of the election of principal officers of the National Assembly.
The party leaders and some elected Senators and members of the House of Representatives were at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, waiting for the President, when they got information that the Senate had been inaugurated and that Saraki had been elected President.
This prompted the legislators to start heading out to the National Assembly when they heard the shocking news.
While leaving the ICC, National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, said he had no comment on the development at the Senate, saying: “I have no comment, I have no reaction.”
The APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, was quoted to have said: “We just watched it (on television) but we will address you when the whole situation has been re-examined.”
