Nigerian National Merit Award to hold 2015 First Award Winners’ Lecture

The Governing Board of the Nigerian National Merit Award (NNMA) has concluded plans to hold its 2015 First Award Winners’ Lecture. The lecture titled: ''Hubris, Humility and the Humongous Lessons of the Brain'' is scheduled to hold on Monday 27th of July, 2015 at the Trenchard Hall of the University of Ibadan at 3:00pm and will be delivered by Professor Oye Gureje (NNOM).

The report from the Publicity Department of NNMA on Thursday July 16, 2015 described the Award Winners’ Lecture as one of the most important programmes of the NNMA, designed primarily to assist in creating the enabling environment for healthy and intellectual discourse and exchange of ideas to be fostered. It further indicated that the basic objectives of the Award Winners’ Lectures are to officially and publicly promote the platform for the best and brightest Nigerian Intellectual laureates to share the fruits of their intellectual enquiry with their compatriots for national development.

''The lectures are mostly held in the university communities, in order to afford the general public and other stakeholders the opportunity to interact with laureates, while contributing to the discussion on national programmes and priorities. Essentially, each laureate of the Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM) is expected to deliver an Award Winners’ Lecture at least once in a life time,'' the report stated.

''The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Isaac Adewole (Professor) is to serve as the Chief Host and  the Chairman of the Governing Board of NNMA, Etim Moses Essien (Professor), who is a laureate in medicine will chair the occasion. All laureates of the Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM), stakeholders and the general public are invited to attend.''
