Ana Mato, the Spanish health minister, confirmed the case in a press briefing late on Monday.
“This afternoon a secondary case of the Ebola virus was identified in our country, affecting an auxiliary [nurse] who was attending to Dr GarcĂa Viejo,” Ms Mato told journalists.Spain’s health minister gave no details on how the virus could have been transmitted despite the intense precautions said to have been taken by the hospital and its staff. “All the necessary measures are being taken to guarantee the safety of medical personnel and the general population,” Ms Mato said.
