The killer identified as Cardell Hayes, 28, was later arrested in connection to the death and is currently being held without bond on one count of second-degree murder.
Smith, 34, was shot multiple times, and his 33-year-old wife Racquel, who was riding in the car with him, was shot once in the right leg, according to police.
Racquel is expected to make a full recovery. They have two children together.
