The 25-year-old Liverpool forward won the trophy after scoring three goals in three games for his club making him the Premier League's joint-top scorer this season alongside Romelu Lukaku.
Huddersfield Town's David Wagner won the manager's award.
In his acceptance speech, the Senegal international thanks his teammates for their support.
"I want to say thanks to all of my teammates because without them I am nothing. I am happy with my start to the season. Everyone loves to score goals for their team, and it gives me more confidence," he said
