The 30-year-old Portuguese superstar scored 48 goals to win his fourth Golden shoe beating Lionel Messi (43) and Sergio Aguero (26) in La Liga last season, was also presented with a Tag Heuer watch by a representative during the gala ceremony.

The Real Madrid forward was joined by his family - brother Hugo, son Cristiano Jnr and mother Dolores Aveiro.

''This is another great moment in my career. Receiving the fourth Golden Shoe is a great honour and a privilege,'' Ronaldo said shortly after receiving the award on Tuesday. ''But without my team-mates, I would not be able to win individual awards. I always want to win more. I want five, six or seven Golden Shoes if possible. Real Madrid are the biggest club in the world and we always have to win titles. I want the Champions League, La Liga and the Copa del Rey.''

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez said of Ronaldo, ''This award goes back to show that we have a unique and exceptional player in Cristiano Ronaldo. Cristiano Ronaldo is the only player in history to win the Golden Boot four times.''

Below is how the European Golden Boot is decided.

The award is weighted to allow players from stronger leagues, such as the Premier League and La Liga, to win even if they score fewer goals than a player in a weaker league.

Weightings are determined by the league's ranking on the Uefa coefficients, with goals scored in the top five leagues multiplied by a factor of two and goals scored in the leagues ranked six to 21 by 1.5.
