U.S. pilot Maj. Taj Sareen killed when his F/A-18C Hornet fighter jet crashed in eastern England was on his way home (California) from a six-month deployment in the Middle East, a U.S. military statement said.
Before his deployment, Sareen, 34, was stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, and was returning after a mission against ISIS militants in the Middle East.
Sareen was among a squadron of six aircraft headed home. The remaining five landed safely.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
