Lagos High Court orders conduct of LGA elections in the state within 30 days

Justice Abdulfatai Lawal of the Lagos High Court Igbosere on Friday ordered the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) to conduct local government elections in the state within 30 days following National Conscience Party (NCP)'s suit over the legality of caretaker committees.

The NCP had instituted the case in January 2014, to challenge the appointment of caretaker committees to run the affairs of local government councils in Lagos State and sought an order of mandamus to direct LASIEC to conduct elections into the council.

Justice Lawal said that the appointment of caretaker committees over the administration of local government councils in Lagos State, is illegal and unconstitutional.
